The Jig Is Up: Air Jordan XX8 Tarnishing the Air Jordan Legacy?

As a life long Chicago Bulls fan and what some may call a “Sneakerhead”, Michael Jeffrey Jordan can pretty much do nothing wrong in my eyes.  I mean he has done it all :

Game winning jumpshot in the 1982 NCAA Finals to propel the Tar Heels over the Hoyas in the championship

– Naismith College Player of the Year (1984)

– 2x Olympic Gold Medalist (1984, 1992 Dream Team)

– NBA Rookie of the Year (1985)

– 2x Slam Dunk Contest Winner (1987, 1988)

– NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1988)

– 3x NBA All Star Game MVP (1988, 1996, 1998)

– 6x NBA Finals MVP (1991-1993, 1996-1998)

– 6x NBA Champion (1991-1993, 1996-1998)

– 5x NBA MVP (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998)

– Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, Class of 2009

But amongst all of these accolades, Jordan has also had his share of miscues …

– Retiring from the game of basketball to pursue a baseball career???

– Coming out of retirement at the age of 40 to play for the Washington Wizards of all teams???  Do remember that Jordan had previously retired after hitting the “Last Shot”

– His Charlotte Bobcats winning a total of 7 games last season which set a record for the worst winning percentage in NBA history!

Even with these downfalls, his sneakers continue to fly off the shelves to this day with the retros he has released throughout the years.  Being an 80’s baby, I truly appreciate the retro Jordan’s because it gives me an opportunity to purchase sneakers that my parents either refused to buy or couldn’t afford to purchase for me as a child.  Fast forward to December 3, 2012 and Jordan Brand hosted an event to unveil the Air Jordan XX8 which new Jordan signee Russel Westbrook will debut tonight …

What do you think is going through Russell Westbrook’s mind as he stares at this sneaker that look like they come straight out of a video game.  In typical fashion, Twitter got a hold of these sneakers and immediately expressed thier displeasure with an array of slander.  As a Jordan fan I think that he needs to just stick to the retros and new designs for the Jordan Brand players but don’t tarnish the Air Jordan name.  Before I go, do note that these Jordan’s will retail for $250 cash …
