As the game progresses and the mixtape is now as important, if not more important, than the album so artists must use this arena to reach their core fans or create new fans.  To me these 5 mixtapes either reinvigorated me as a fan or made me a fan of these artists.  Check my Top 5 below …

Rickie Jacobs – Remember To Smile


Rickie Jacobs previous mixtape Beautiful America opened my eyes to the Baltimore native and he followed up the effort with Remember To Smile which only made me a bigger fan of Air Jacobs.

Ty Dolla $ign – $ign Language

Ty Dolla had dropped Beach House previously which received critical acclaim but I slept on the project.  I didn’t make the same mistake again this time especially after hearing “Lord Knows” featuring Dom Kennedy and Rick Ross.  This mixtape is definitely one of the best this year …

Wiz Khalifia – 28 Grams

It took me a while to become a fan of Wiz but eventually I did and 28 Grams introduced me to Trap Wiz.  This took me back to Cabin Fever Wiz and was a mixtape of bangers …
