Mrsoldout.com recently caught up JAMLA recording artist Big Remo while in atlanta for the 8th annual A3C festival. JAMLA is an independednt label ran by Hip Hop royalty 9th Wonder. The label is enjoying its share of success with Rapsody doing very big things these days.

I was introduced to Big Remo in 2010 with the release of Entrapment. Since then we’ve become rivals, being that he’s a Patriots fan :-( . I spent some time with the  “Go Ladies” MC  before he rocked the A3C JAMLA stage to discuss the meaning his upcoming album Hero, differences between niggas and black people, and what he paid for his verified Twitter check.

Why do you call yourself Big Remo?
I call myself Big Remo because it’s really an acronym. It stands for Best In the Game. Alright, they call me Big Remo because I’m like a big deal in my world; you know what I’m saying? In my hood people really know who I am. I try to show love to everybody. Remo is because of the art; Remo is because of the cinematic art. I choose to paint pictures cinematically with words, and so did Remo from Beat Street.

Where are you from
I’m from Winston-Salem, NC.

How many black people are there
A lot, it’s niggas. Well, I don’t know how many black people there are but it’s niggas everywhere in Winston.

What’s the difference between a nigga and a black person
A black person is someone who is not consumed with the word nigga or with the lifestyle of being a nigga. I think ignorance is the barrier between a black person and a nigga.

Ok, If I’m on public transportation and I’m yelling, “Hey Girl, this what happened last night” am I a black person or a nigga?
You’re a black person. Black people will talk to love unconditionally. So we’re going to embrace each other when we see each other and it’s going to be fun and we going to smile, we’re beautiful. Look at your teeth– they’re beautiful. My teeth are quite ugly but I have fly lips…

Beautiful lips, ladies
Thank you. Anyway, we’re going to quite naturally greet each other in big sighting when we see each other. Now, if you see a nigga out they might say “aye Motherfucker, you my motherfucking dog, where you been!” that’s a little bit extensive.

What brings you out to Atlanta for A3C?
My third year. I love rocking the A3C. You get to see all the people who hit you on Twitter who actually bought your album or listened to your album oppose to the people in your hood and stuff. Those people in your hood probably still listen to 2Chainz everyday or the radio. They’re not Internet savvy. Where I’m from its really the hood, like everywhere is the hood. We got 3 sides of town and 4 major projects. So a lot of those people are not computer savvy or hooked up to the Internet. They probably got bootleg cable.

I have bootleg cable
Me too. [Laughs]

What’s the name of your latest project?
Sleep Walkers. It’s about a boy living out his dreams. Like 9th Wonder– like I said, we come from the hood. He comes from Cleveland projects I come from Boston Projects, and as kids you almost had a passion to meet people like Raekwon or Bun B, or Slick Rick or Pete Rock or anybody like that. And that’s the biggest payment of everything. It feels like you living out your dream so I call it Sleep Walking. You sleep but you living it.

You mentioned 9th Wonder– you are a JAMLA artist.
I am a JAMLA artist. I’m verified on twitter @TheRealBigRemo. Blue check

How much did you pay for your blue check?
You better get out of here, man. I’ll tell you what I paid. I have been rapping since ’92 that’s how much I paid.

So you paid your dues?
Yeah, I paid my dues. 2 albums, 1 mixtape, several projects in the making. We are paying dues over here.

You have SleepWalkers out now. What can we expect from Big Remo in the future?
January 15th I’m releasing my third album. It’s called Hero. Hero is basically a hero to rap music. You’re bringing rap back cause they need somebody. They need a savior. Not saying that everybody else isn’t doing the same exact thing.

Will I be featured on it?
You sent me your 16 when? We going to work that out, ok?

You’re supposed to be writing it for me.
I’m not going to write your 16. You’re a very good writer and I know that you can do it on your own but I’m going to help you out and make sure that it’s tight.

Thank you so much Big Remo.
